The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most iconic and collected coins in American numismatics. It represents the growth, ambition, and tumult of post-Civil War America through the early 20th century. It was designed by George T. Morgan, a British-born engraver who later became Chief Engraver of the US Mint. The coin was minted from 1878-1904 and for one final year in 1921 before being replaced by the Peace Dollar.
There are 97 different date and mint mark combinations in the set, the coin was minted in Philadelphia (no mark, 1878-1904), Carson City (“CC” mint mark, 1878-1885, 1889-1893), New Orleans (“O” mint mark, 1879-1904), San Francisco (“S” mint mark, 1878-1904, 1921) and Denver (“D” mint mark, 1921 only).
Key Dates: 1879-CC, 1881-CC, 1884-S, 1885-CC, 1889-CC, 1892-S, 1893-CC, 1893-S (lowest mintage in set!), 1894, and 1895 (proof only).
Note: there are 10 coins from this set that I own in CACG holders and thus not eligible for entry here. 79-CC and 93-S are only two dates I am missing.阅读全文
