George V was the founder of the House of Windsor. He wanted to cut ties with his Hapsburg (German) roots of his Grandfather Prince Albert. He was a proud British Traditionalist who encouraged the troops during the First World War, known as the Great War in its day. Canada was a proud supporter of the monarchy and served under Britsh rule during WWI.
As a kid it was easy to spot the old distinguished gentleman with the crown in rolls or a change till. It was vastly different from the Bluenose dimes with the young man or young queen. These dimes and their dies were minted by the Royal Mint of England. They have a wreath with a small crown and Canada 10 cents on the front. The obverse has the King with the wording of his royal designations including Emperor of India.
