A series with cat images on 1 crown coins. The Isle of Man Crown series began in 1970, paused so to speak and resumed in 1979, paused yet again and resumed in 1988. The set really took off in 1988 when they decided to mint coins in every year. They eventually added a colorized proof silver in a number of years. My set will concentrate on silver issues, but I will get the cupro nickel ones as deals arise. I hope you enjoy my photos and encourage you to take a slide show tour of my set.
The beautiful Isle of Man. A 33 mile long island with a striking coastline of bays, beaches and very rugged cliffs. It is situated in the Irish Sea about halfway between Northern Ireland and England. It is a self governing dependency of the British Crown under her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Isle of Man holds the distinction of having the longest continuous sitting Parliament. The Tynwald Court and House of Keys were established by the first Norse ruler in the 9th century, and despite many intervening changes in lordship, still govern the island's domestic affairs today. The earliest inhabitants of Man were Celts, many of whom were Irish missionaries who followed the teachings of St. Patrick. The Manx language-akin to Gaelic-remained in everyday speech until the first half of the 18th century when England prevailed. Now the Isle of Man is a thriving resort center with its own laws, stamps, and coinage.
