I was a boy scout in the 1960’s and early 70’s. The old boy scout coin collecting merit badge was all about American coins. One of the requirements was to collect a 20th Century type set (not including gold). In those days, there was plenty of silver in circulation. I was friends with the local grocer and the local laundromat owner, and they let me sort through loose change. I came close to getting a complete set, but did not make it because those pesky Barber coins from the early part of the century were impossibly rare in circulation by then. When you could find one, it was usually so worn that the date was barely readable, if at all. I just recently took up coin collecting again. My short term goal and present concentration is to put together a mint state 20th Century type set (with as many variations as possible), including several not listed on the registry set (no initials Lincolns 1909-1915; Type 1.1 Buffalo; Accented Hair Kennedy; etc.). So far, so good, with exception of the Barber half (AU condition). I look forward to upgrading everything to mint state.阅读全文
